Hopefully, CyanogenMod or some other alternative ROM will be available in the coming months so I can move away from the stock Android + EMUI provided by Huawei. Even though you cannot get your bootloader code from Huawei directly anymore, that doesn't mean that you can't access your bootloader code. I ended up using DC-Unlocker and paid 4 Euros (£3.50) to buy enough credits for the DC-Unlocker client to aghbxe.
